Russia is continuing to work with India on the delivery of Kamov Ka-31 deck-based radar picket helicopters, Alexander Mikheyev, CEO of Russian arms exporter Rosoboronexport, told the HeliRus-2022 helicopter show on May 20.
The Ka-31 is the world's only deck-based radar surveillance helicopter
According to the report of the Russian state news agency Tass, Mikheev has said that work is going on with India regarding the Kamov Ka-31. The Ka-31 has no rivals and is the only deck-based radar surveillance helicopter in the world. It perfectly copes with the tasks of controlling wind and sea conditions and monitoring economic zones and water areas.
Deal break report turned out to be false!
Earlier on May 17, a defense magazine quoted sources in the Indian Defense Ministry as saying that India has suspended talks with Russia on the delivery of 10 Ka-31 helicopters. This decision was also taken due to the Ukraine war and uncertainty over the delivery, the report said.
In 2019, there was agreement regarding Ka-31
Let us tell you that in May 2019, India and Russia had signed an agreement regarding the Ka-31 helicopter. Under this, India was going to buy 10 Ka-31 helicopters from Russia. The Tass report states that talks were interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic which resumed in February 2022.
According to reports, a batch of helicopters will cost $520 million. The Indian Navy currently operates 14 Ka-31 helicopters purchased from Russia in 2003-2015.
